At Bell-East Middle School, talents come in all shapes and sizes. For thirteen year old Baileigh Hofer, her drawing savvy is not merely a hobby or interest: it is a passion. She says, “…it’s the only thing I’m really good at and it’s fun.” Although she recognizes that artists generally do not make a large income, she still dreams of one day growing up and being an artist.
Various things inspire Baileigh and her numerous works of art, but she gets much of her creative vision from Vincent Van Gogh. “Vincent Van Gogh is my favorite artist and his style is really inspirational to me. I feel as though my art could be compared to the likes of his.”
Baileigh cherishes each of her drawings, though she is most proud of her saber-tooth cat and Jack Skellington drawings. However, every artist has at least one drawing they regret. For her, it is a bird made of musical notes. She tends to prefer using mechanical pencils over wooden ones because of the finer point. Her favored things to draw are cartoons, but she is a fan of realistic drawings as well.
Baileigh began drawing at an early age. “I began drawing in fourth grade, and then I got really invested in it.” Since then, she has overcome obstacles and exceeded her own expectations as to how far her drawing career would go. Baileigh lets everyday ideas and thoughts shine through her artwork and inspire her peers. Armed with her sharp determination and motivation, she plans to not only continue drawing throughout her life, but also to make a career out of it.
