Mrs. Doan is an eighth grade teacher at Bell-East Middle School . She is a veteran teacher, and she loves it. Mrs. Doan has been teaching at Bell-East for 13 years. She began teaching 39 years ago, in 1973. Mrs. Karen Doan knew what she wanted to do with her life from the very beginning. Majoring and minoring in English and journalism at IU Bloomington and with an aunt that was an English and journalism teacher, Mrs. Doan was inspired to be a teacher of language arts. When Mrs. Doan was in college, there were three main jobs a woman could get. Teaching was one of them. Mrs. Doan says,” My dad pushed me
towards being a teacher. My aunt was also a big inspiration.” Mrs. Doan says she started teaching because she loved English as a child and student. She was on the newspaper and yearbook staff in college. Mrs. Doan previously taught in southern Indiana. She left teaching for a while,
but she says “ I was meant to be a teacher. I was meant to come back.”
